Improve iTunes Audio Quality

If you want to enhance your iTunes audio, for a modest outlay, I thoroughly recommend iWoW by SRS Labs.

This iTunes plug-in gives much deeper and richer bass, and a fully immersive surround sound quality to your music.

At $29.99 it’s worth every cent (or for me in the UK, every penny). Try the free 14 day trial. You’ll never be satisfied with iTunes’ plain vanilla audio again!

The plug-in processes audio in realtime so your actual tracks remain intact and unchanged.

One particularly good feature is it’s ‘Auto Preset Selection’. This feature matches the equaliser preset of the plug-in to the genre of the music being played, e.g: Dance for thumping floor fillers, Classical for Mozart etc. As long as your library’s genre are set on your iTunes tracks (and the majority will be) this makes a huge difference by enhancing the most important aspects of the track. Of course if you prefer one of the presets over and above the others you can set this manually.

Different listening modes are accounted for with separate settings for headphones, speakers, and for watching movies.

I installed the plug-in in November 2007 (when I made the switch from PC to Mac). It’s remained switched on and active ever since. Occasionally I deactivate it just to see what my music sounds like in it’s “pure” form – it’s dull, flat and lifeless.

The iWow plug-in brings your music to life, and I love it.

    Nice report on SRS iWOW.

Most of the big TV makers use SRS TruSurround to make the small speakers in their TVs perform better, producing a wider sound field, enhanced voice intelligibility and deeper bass. Do you have an HDTV that has SRS TruSurround XT?

HI Jim, thanks for your comment.

I didn’t know that TV’s use SRS TruSurround. I do have a TV (not HD) that has a surround sound option. Not sure if it’s the SRS labs version though. I usually use the Dolby ProLogic 5.1 mode my TV has when watching DVDs etcs.

    Cheers, Richard
