First Mac-Only "Social Learning Network" Launches

December 31st, 2008

Atlanta, Georgia – This isn’t your average “social network!” MacMod is repositioning itself in order to better serve Mac users looking for a place to socialize and learn with other Mac users. In this world of social networking MacMod recognizes the need to bring the powerful community building features of sites like Facebook and MySpace into the smaller more intimate niche that is the Mac community.

“We’ve always been a big destination for enthusiastic people who want to customize and optimize their Macs,” says Anthony King, one of the founders of MacMod. “Now we’re making it easy and fun for them to develop relationships with others who feel the same way about their computers.”

Members of the site will be able to interact with other members in the same way they have grown accustomed to on other social networks. However, unlike most social networks, MacMod will be blending these features with useful Mac-related content including software tools, modification guides, system specs, icons sets, daily news, and more.

The MacMod difference:
* Users are surrounded by other Mac users
* Members can contribute to site-wide blogs and photo galleries
* Social content is complimented by informative Mac-centric content
* Mac users get a “real community” that is more than just a forum

As long as Apple continues to grow the market share for its computers, Mac OS X, and its other product lines such as the iPhone and iPod, there will be a stream of new Mac users looking for an online community where they can meet new people and learn about all things Mac. MacMod is positioned to be the place for them both.

MacMod

Based in Atlanta, GA, MacMod is a social learning network for Mac users who want to socialize and learn with other Mac users. It’s home to The Great MacMod Challenge and the “Mod of the Year” award. MacMod is dedicated to providing Mac users with the ability to share information and identify resources they need to personalize, customize, and optimize a Mac system. MacMod is recognized as the world’s leading Mac modification site and is the first modern Mac-centric social learning network.

Altomac releases Filemailer 2.0 for Mac OS X

December 31st, 2008

Milano, Italy – Altomac today announced Filemailer 2.0, an update to their freeware file sending solution for Mac OS X. Saving both time and disk space, Filemailer is a handy utility that changes the way people share files via internet, and helps expedite the process of sharing files between computers. It is particularly suited to those who need to send files to clients where it is unnecessary to write out an accompanying email.

Every day, millions of people around the world send and receive email (especially between co-workers) whose sole purpose is to transfer files from one computer to another. However this process involves a considerable amount of time because of the number of conventions used when writing an email. But these steps shouldn’t necessary. The aim of the email was just to move a file from one computer to another.

Filemailer avoids this by leveraging an easy-to-use template, and features a single, unified interface. All that is necessary is entering a pre-formatted message only once, and the application takes care of the rest. Just drag a file over the recipient and Filemailer automatically deals with the compression of the file, enters the name of compressed file in the subject line, inserts the pre-composed message in the body, and with just one click, dutifully sends the file.

Filemailer sports new improvements and fixes for all known bugs. Version 2.0 now offers support for TLS authentication, and includes a new feature to organize contacts in groups to send to multiple recipients.

Language Support:
English, Italian, and French

Minimum Requirements:
* Mac OS X Version 10.4 Tiger or later (Leopard Compatible)
* Universal Binary for PowerPC and Intel
* 12.1 MB Hard Drive space
* Email Account
* Internet Connection

Pricing and Availability:
Filemailer 2.0 is freeware. Filemailer is also available in a Pro Edition for $14.95 (USD) from the Altomac online store. Filemailer 2.0 offers the additional feature of multiple recipients. Educational and Family Site Licenses (up to fifty computers) are available. Version 2.0 is a free and recommended update.

Win A Trip To Hawaii at MacWorld with beamME

December 30th, 2008

New York, NY – For the first time, MacWorld attendees have the opportunity to win a vacation just for doing something that comes naturally: meeting new people. During MacWorld 2009 (1/5/09-1/9/09), every new personal or business contact made by attendees using their iPhone and free app beamME provides an entry into the beamME/Up Sweepstakes. Bonus entries are also available for completing fun challenges, like beaming people named Wozniak. One lucky winner will fly away to sunny Hawaii.

“Meeting new people at a conference is a big part of why we attend,” said Gabe Zichermann, CEO of rmbrME, the developer of beamME for the iPhone. “This year, we’re making networking into a game that anyone can play…and win.”

beamME is the world’s most popular service for mobile contact exchange, enabling any mobile to “beam” a socially-networked vCard to any other device, without handset or carrier restriction. Card recipients need no special hardware, software or registration to retrieve their new contact and – in most cases – can add directly to their phone or PC address book with a single click. beamME is available as a free download for the iPhone or iPod Touch from the iTunes App Store.

To enter the drawing, MacWorld attendees must register on the rmbrME website and download the free beamME application for their iPhone or iPod Touch. Every time they meet someone new, using powerful and popular beamME to exchange their contact information generates an entry into the contest. Bonus challenges offer an opportunity to increase the number of potential contest entries. A number of rules and restrictions apply to the beamME/Up Sweepstakes – a complete list of which can be found online.

Based in New York City, rmbrME is best known for developing the breathtakingly simple and popular beamME for the iPhone/iPod Touch and universal contact exchange using SMS. The company’s design philosophy is that digital contact exchange only works when it’s device, carrier and social network independent, lifting the requirement for recipients to have special hardware, software or registration before being able to access new contacts. Sketches Holiday Sale extended until the end of the year

December 28th, 2008

Madrid, Spain – LateNiteSoft has just announced an extension of their holiday sale of Sketches, the popular drawing app for the iPhone and iPod Touch. The application will be available for $1.99 / 1.59 Euro through Apple’s App Store until the end of the year. This represents a 60% discount over the regular price of $4.99.

“Sketches has been available in the App Store since its opening in July, and we’ve managed to gather valuable feedback from our customers all this time” says Jorge Llubiá, co-founder and COO. “Given that the App Store has now more than 10,000 applications to choose from, we’d like to make it easier for new users to find and try Sketches – we are convinced they’ll like what they see, and we’ll continue to learn a lot from the suggestions and ideas we receive.”

LateNiteSoft is committed to improving the product. As Jorge Llubiá told us recently, “We don’t believe in ephemeral hits. On the contrary, we want our iPhone apps to replicate the same ideals we try to follow in our Mac business line: frequent updates, high quality, attention to detail and dedicated customer support – that’s the only way our customers will find Sketches fun, useful and fresh for a long time”.

Sketches has already received several updates, and many new features have been added since launch. These include new drawing tools – such as text shapes or eraser, extensive sharing options or an intuitive, unobtrusive tip system. “Many of the most interesting ideas and suggestions from our customers have been built into Sketches 1.4. We are proud of the top-quality result we have achieved so far, but we are far from finished with it. We are now working on Sketches 1.5, and then our next milestone will be Sketches 2.0, a major new version that registered customers will be able to download for free through the App Store. Thus this is the perfect time to still gather some ideas, and at the same time celebrate the attention our app has received all this time”.

Among other distinctions, Sketches has received a 4.5 mouse rating from Macworld, as well as 5-star ratings from iPhoneAlley and 148apps. An Apple “Staff Favorite” in most countries, it is the #9 Entertainment application in the “Best of iTunes 2008″ selection posted by Apple in their various sites.

Pricing and Availability:
Sketches is available through Apple’s App Store for just $1.99 until December 31st, and for $4.99 thereafter.
