Koingo Software releases Amnesia 1.0 – Easily Uninstall Mac Apps

April 2nd, 2009

Kamloops, British Columbia – Koingo Software is pleased to announce the immediate availability of Amnesia! Easily uninstall applications, preference panes, screen savers, and Dashboard widgets from Mac OS X as well as all their related files. Selling for shareware US$9.95, Amnesia is available for a free 15 day trial and requires Mac OS X 10.4 or later.

Many software titles on Mac OS come with the uninstall directions of simply “Drag the application to the Trash and empty it”. In reality, this often leaves many related files on the computer taking up valuable hard drive space. Amnesia performs a smart scan to determine all related files to be removed.

Amnesia will remove logs, caches, application support files, preferences, crash reports, and other application specific files. In addition, turn on a secure deletion option to prevent recovery of the removed files.

If there are concerns about removing potentially wanted files, Amnesia comes with a built-in backup function which creates an archive of related files in case you wish to restore them at a later time. It will reinstall the pieces of the product exactly where they came from – even if you choose to restore to a different machine!

Another powerful feature Amnesia has to offer is the ability to create a list of untouchable software sets (in addition to the ones built-in). They are software products which Amnesia will warn you about incase a remove is attempted. This is handy incase a particular software product should be removed using a manufacturer-provided uninstaller instead.

MEI Releases CLS 3.8 and ClassForce 3.8

April 2nd, 2009

Jenkintown, PA – Managing Editor Inc. (MEI), an Adobe premier development partner and a leading provider of software solutions for the publishing industry, today announced the release of Page Director(R) Classified Layout System 3.8 and ClassForce(R) 3.8. The two releases represent the latest versions of MEI’s popular programs for automated and semi-automated classified layout.

CLS is MEI’s customizable rules-based classified layout solution. The program reads advertising text and image files, builds a runsheet of the classified items, examines the liners and display ads against user-defined rules, and then flows them to pages. Based on the same technology, ClassForce is MEI’s cost-effective, semi-automated classified layout system for small to mid-size publications.

While the two products are tailored to different levels of electronic classified pagination, each includes the same new features in version 3.8. Both CLS and ClassForce are now Intel-native applications; contextual menus have been added to enable users to quickly and easily make changes to individual pages, runsheet items or the entire issue; a new Measurements dialog allows users to edit the points-per-unit value and accepted abbreviations of the measurement systems within the software; and CLS and ClassForce now support multiple column models in a single document.

CLS and ClassForce 3.8 come packaged with CLS XT for QuarkXPress(R) 7.x and a new version of MEI’s Ad Import plug-in that is compatible with Adobe(R) InDesign(R) CS2, CS3 and CS4. These tools allow users to import dummies and final classified ad content into QuarkXPress or InDesign editorial pages. QuarkXPress 8 compatibility will be available in the coming weeks.

“Publishers will always need tools that improve efficiency and drive down production costs,” said Steven Haught, vice president of sales at MEI. “With CLS and ClassForce, classified page layout doesn’t have to be an unprofitable, time-consuming process.”

Availability:
CLS 3.8 and ClassForce 3.8 are available now. Upgrades are free for customers in MEI’s Premium Site Support Agreement program. Other customers should call their MEI salesperson for upgrade pricing. For more details, contact MEI at 215-886-5662 or an authorized MEI distributor. More information can be found on Managing Editor Inc.’s Web site.

MEI Releases New Versions of ALS for Magazines, AdForce and ALS Direct

April 2nd, 2009

Jenkintown, PA – Managing Editor Inc. (MEI), an Adobe premier development partner and a leading provider of software solutions for the publishing industry, today announced new releases of Ad Layout System (ALS) for Magazines, AdForce(R), and ALS Direct. MEI has also released ALS XT for QuarkXPress(R) 8.

These upgrades for MEI’s popular issue-planning tools complement the recent release of Page Director(R) ALS 5.4, the industry standard for ad layout.

ALS for Magazines 5.4 and AdForce 5.4 include the same new features found in ALS 5.4, including the print designer, which allows users to design and print custom ad dummies. The releases are packaged with new versions of MEI’s ALS XT and Ad Import plug-in, compatible with QuarkXPress 7.x and 8 and Adobe(R) InDesign(R) CS2, CS3 and CS4, respectively.

ALS for Magazines, an ad placement solution built specifically for magazines, allows users to create fully paginated, accurate and functional ad dummies that can be opened in QuarkXPress or InDesign. Through its electronic issue-planning and ad-mapping capabilities, ALS for Magazines allows publishers to eliminate manual processes, shorten the cycle time from ad dummy to editorial page production, automatically import digital ads to editorial pages, reduce prepress production costs and lengthen the time to ad close.

AdForce is a cost-effective, easy-to-use ad placement and issue-management system for small to mid-size newspapers. Users quickly build ad pages using drag-and-drop or semi-automated flow tools; finished sections can be opened in QuarkXPress or InDesign.

ALS Direct, now optimized for compatibility with ALS and ALS for Magazines 5.4, creates a real-time direct database connection with the vjoon K4(TM) Publishing System. ALS Direct allows ALS and K4 users to integrate advertising and editorial workflows into one shared system. Updates are communicated directly to K4, alerting editors, art directors, designers and production staff when changes occur in the ad department, and at the same time dynamically updating the page folios and ad positions as the issue plan evolves.

“These new releases offer more options for customers in different markets to enhance their workflow with MEI technology,” said Steven Haught, vice president of sales at MEI. “Now, different types of publications and even different departments can benefit from our industry-leading ad layout solutions.”

Boinx Software announces BoinxTV 1.2

April 2nd, 2009

Munich, Germany – Boinx Software is proud to announce the release, today, of BoinxTV 1.2, a free update to its live production software that turns a Mac into a TV studio. With improved stability, performance and many new features, the free update is strongly recommended for all BoinxTV users.

BoinxTV 1.2 features a new Screen Source to capture Skype or iChat conversations for video interviews. Version 1.2 also comes with a new widescreen template, “BTVNEWS” to produce a professional looking news anchor show. Users will see enhancements in numerous areas – user interface refinements as well as chroma keying improvements, along with several new and enhanced layers. Boinx Software invites everyone interested in production software to a free live webinar: tune in on April 6, 2009 at 5pm UTC (5pm GMT, 1pm ETD, 10am PTD) at the Boinx Webinars web page to learn more about the new features of BoinxTV 1.2 first-hand.

“As BoinxTV is used more and more in real live situations, such as the streaming of the recent MacHeist Reveal Show or the recording of the MLD Family Conference, we get really valuable feedback on how to improve the handling of the application”; says Oliver Breidenbach, CEO of Boinx Software. “The team did a great job of implementing these improvements, which will now enable users to control the application much easier.

We are especially excited to provide users with new creative tools,” notes Florian Albrecht, head of engineering and product marketing for Boinx Software. “For example, the animated backdrops for lower thirds and other text elements now give the recording an even more professional look, and the Screen Source gives you access to more content.”

New Screen Source
BoinxTV 1.2 adds a new Screen Source to grab arbitrary screen regions and use them as sources in any layer. This enables the user to capture Skype or iChat video conversations, screencasts, presentations, or any other opened document directly from the screen.

New Template
A new template “BTVNEWS” designed by Tim Sternsdorff, is also included. This widescreen template makes use of many of the new layer capabilities introduced in version 1.2. Combined with a green screen and a chroma keyed camera, the new template creates the set for a professional looking news anchor show.

New Layers
BoinxTV version 1.2 ships with more than 50 layers that can be combined and customized to create a unique show design. Layers are responsible for rendering graphics and sound, and can be interactively controlled. Many layers come with improved functionality. BoinxTV 1.2 introduces several new layers and substantially improves existing ones:

* The new “Twitter” layer displays a configurable Twitter feed in real time
* “News Crawl” now features a configurable transition, and more display options, including animated backgrounds
* Several text layers, like “Static Text” have gained the ability to display configurable backgrounds and drop shadows
* The “Sidebar” layer can display its contents inside a shape defined by a mask and an overlay
* “Computer Circuits” is 3D background layer featuring a rotating circuit board
* The “Waving Flag” layer displays a waving flag (featuring G8 countries)
* “World Time” shows the world map with the pattern of day and night

User Interface Improvements
With BoinxTV 1.2 the user interface has been refined and improved. Jog Wheels, a new control element, make setting up numeric values more convenient. Images, movies, sound clips, and compositions, can be previewed via Quick Look directly in the Source Repository of BoinxTV. Hotkey shortcuts can be defined not only for layers but also for specific settings to trigger, e.g. multiple settings in different layers to synchronize multiple elements.

Chroma Keying Improvements
The new “Auto” button in the filtered source setup window helps to create a good starting point for the chroma keying based on the scenario and lighting. With Image Masks, two regions can be defined for removing or retaining non-moving objects in the scene.

BoinxTV 1.2 provides built-in support for the new Turbo.264 HD from Elgato for trimming the recording and converting to various H.264 formats.
