Yokohama, Japan – bluejava is proud to announce the release of Stegomatic, an iPhone/iPad app for hiding messages or images inside of other images. Steganography is a term used to describe the practice of communicating secret messages right out in the open – “hidden in plain sight”. Stegomatic enables users to create images that contain other secret images or messages, and then save them, email them, or post them to social media. The secret message is digitally encoded and optionally password protected – but the primary reason the message is unlikely to fall into the wrong hands, is that it does not appear to be a secret message at all.
Stegomatic is designed to emulate WWII era communications equipment, and is composed of four specialized machines. Decoding messages can be done on the entry-level machine, which is included for free. So any communication sent with the app can be read by its recipient without them having to purchase anything. The most capable machine, the D700-EX, can encode messages or images, password protect them, and even set them to self-destruct shortly after being viewed.
* Decoder included in free download
* Encode secret messages or pictures
* Password protect secrets for double protection
* Set to self-destruct and recipient can view only once
* Save encoded or decoded images to photo library
* Direct to email or social media makes it easy to post
What benefits does this approach offer over traditional encryption?
The key benefit of using Stegomatic to hide secrets, is that no one will know secrets are being hidden in the first place. When one has an oppressive government (or parent or teacher!) they may face repurcusions for sending secret messages or pictures, even if the oppressor is unable to view them. With the Stegomatic, one may send an innocent photo of their cat, and no one could know that hidden mathematically amongst the pixels is their secrets.
